ALFILM Arab Film Festival Berlin is organized since 2009 by the non-profit association Zentrum für arabische Filmkunst und Kultur e.V. (formerly Freunde der arabischen Kinemathek, Berlin e.V.) It is the largest platform for the promotion of the diverse Arab cinematography in Germany. ALFILM takes place in Berlin in cinema Arsenal and City Kino Wedding, as well as other venues. It is a founding member of Festiwelt e.V., the independent network of Berlin film festivals.

Since December 2022, ALFILM has been organized and implemented by festival director Pascale Fakhry and a team of freelancers and volunteers.

The aim of ALFILM is to highlight films from the Arab world and its diaspora that have a high artistic value and present challenging perspectives on contemporary cultural, social and political issues. With its three pillars ALFILM SELECTION, ALFILM SPOTLIGHT and ALFILM ATELIER, the festival offers a lively platform for critical discourse, intercultural exchange, engagement with other cultures and future synergies and cooperations.

Discussions with filmmakers and experts take up socially and artistically relevant topics while offering new and stimulating views on the coexistence of cultures, diversity, and the portrayal and representation of minorities in mainstream society. Panel discussions on current themes, film talks and a specials complete the programme.

ALFILM Arabisches Filmfestival Berlin wird seit 2009 vom gemeinnützigen Verein Zentrum für arabische Filmkunst und Kultur e.V. (vormals Freunde der arabischen Kinemathek, Berlin e.V.) organisiert und ist deutschlandweit das wichtigste Filmfestival, das der vielfältigen Filmszene der arabischen Welt eine Plattform bietet. ALFILM findet in Berlin in den Kinos Arsenal und City Kino Wedding und an weiteren Veranstaltungsorten statt und ist Gründungsmitglied von Festiwelt e.V., dem unabhängigen Netzwerk Berliner Filmfestivals.

Seit Dezember 2022 wird ALFILM von Pascale Fakhry geleitet und gemeinsam mit einem Team von Honorarkräften, Volontär:innen und ehrenamtlichen Mitarbeiter:innen geplant und umgesetzt.

Der Schwerpunkt des Festivals liegt auf inhaltlich und künstlerisch anspruchsvollen Filmen aus der arabischen Welt und ihrer Diaspora. Mit den drei Säulen ALFILM SELECTION, ALFILM SPOTLIGHT und ALFILM ATELIER bietet das Festival eine lebendige Plattform für den Diskurs, den interkulturellen Austausch, das Eintauchen in andere Welten sowie für zukünftige Synergien und Kooperationen. Gespräche mit Filmemacher:innen und Expert:innen greifen gesellschaftlich und künstlerisch relevante Positionen auf und bieten Denkanstöße und kritische Diskurse zum Miteinander der Kulturen, Diversität, und der Darstellung und Repräsentation von Minderheiten in der Mehrheitsgesellschaft. Podiumsdiskussionen zu aktuellen Themen, Filmgespräche sowie ein Rahmenprogramm runden das Programm ab.
