Trajectory
The 2009 "États Généraux" is fast approaching. Every year, working out the program is the result of a long maturing process. In the course of our reflections and encounters, of the discovery of new films and re-discovery of essential ones, out of our desires and probing, we construct a collection of offers that we then share with both long-term and newly met partners.
Choosing the films first, remains the most reliable of all promises, and combining them is a tricky and exciting construction. It is a privilege and a responsibility as well to create courses with these films, hoping they will meet with an attentive and critical public.
By valuing the commitment of these works, we have outlined a trajectory that will get across various aesthetical currents and art fields, be they the expression of both a strong political position and an asserted choice in writing and directing.
From the first Rumanian film news, presented in "Doc History", to the most recent documentary films in the other programmes, this is also an invitation to confront different ways of approaching and analyzing the history of different documentary forms and to reconsider the commitment of the authors.

"Lumière d'Afrique". "Lumière" is also the name of the two pioneer brothers who founded the art of cinema. "Of Africa" because the "Lumière" children, in more than fifteen Sub-Saharan African countries, are writing, shooting, editing, and producing the new African documentary cinema. An opportunity to get to see around ten works, most of them not yet released, of this "1st Lumière d'Afrique" collection, based on a definitely creative approach and on an agreement for equitable North-South co-productions. In a powerful way, this collection marks the emergence of a new wave of African documentary makers.
