Mali, late 17th century. In a small hamlet of the Dogon country, a hunter lives with his two wives. After 10 years of marriage, Yamio, the first wife, can still not bear a child and tries to commit suicide because of her co-wive's humiliations. Yamio throws herself off the cliff but lands miraculously safe.
