From March 2012 to January 2013, the northern regions of Mali lived under the yoke of armed Islamist groups including AnsarDine, the Movement for the Unity and Jihad in West Africa (MJUAO) and the Azawad National Liberation Movement (MNLA). Unfortunately, the worst that was feared for the people and historical monuments located in this part of the country occurred in all directions.
