Claude Gaignaire is a director and assistant director, known for Les silences de Laas Geel (2010), Une touche de bleue (1988, selected at Cannes Film Festival) and Les enfants du diable (1992).
Born in 1941, he studied at the Conservatoire d'art dramatique in Sète and the Centre dramatique du Midi and founded the Compagnie théâtrale de la mer with Moni Grégo. Combining writing and work in the theatre and cinema, he was assistant to Marcel Carné, René Ferret, Alain Bergala and many others. His films include Les Paysages du temps (1983), Une touche de bleue (1988), Les Enfants du diable (1992), La Terre des artifices (1995), Femmes de Camargue (1999) and La Stratégie du thon (2000). He runs theatre workshops in working-class areas in Sète and, with various theatrical companies, is carrying out an experiment on the audiovisual interpretation of theatre conserving the fiction aspect. He is currently making a full-length feature film, L'Ange des mers, and a full-length animated film, Les Révoltés de la couleur.
