Mini Biographie
Cambridge ad écroché une bourse quatre d'études en médecine, mais il décida d'être acteur, quittant l'université en 3ème année. Il joua dans plusieurs productions de Broadway, gagnant le Village Voice's Obie Award pour la pièce de Jean Genet Les Nègres; et à Broadway il eu un Nomination aux Tony Award pour Purlie's Victorious. C'était un comédien de théâtre qui a fait de de la télévision, débutant dans l'émission Jack Paar Show. Après quelques apparitions, il se consacra au cinéma à la fin des années soixante. Il joua des rôles à la fois comiques ou sérieux mais il demeure connu pour celui du bigot blanc qui se réveille Noir dans The Watermelon Man (1970). Sa propension à manger contribua certainement à son décès précoce à l'âge de 43 ans sur le plateau du téléfilm Victory at Entebbe (1976) où il incarnait le Général Idi Amin.

Il est mort d'une crise cardiaque sur le plateau du téléfilm movie Victory at Entebbe (1976), où il jouait le rôle du dictateur ougandais Idi Amin. Amin affirma que la mort de Cambridge était "une punition de Dieu."

Il a été nominé à Broadway en 1962 pour le Tony Award du Meilleur rôle secondaire ou acteur principal (Dramatique) pour le film "Purlie Victorious," un rôle qu'il a tiré du film Gone Are the Days! (1963).

Il était prévu comme acteur principal dans "The Partners" (1971) mais quitta le tournag durant le pilote à cause de mésente avec Don Adams.
